Auto News: A shocking incident has emerged from Noida. Police have busted a gang that stole cars parked outside homes within minutes. Furthermore, they would dismantle the stolen vehicles and sell their parts in the market within hours, thus destroying the car completely. The remarkable thing is that these thieves, who stole modern cars, were poorly educated.
Noida Police reported that the thieves would first conduct a recce on a scooter without a license plate. They would then use a T-shaped wire or a rod to open the car's window locks. A gang member would then break the car's steering lock using a magnet. The thief told police that he would place the magnet under the steering wheel to open the lock. Once the steering wheel was unlocked, the car was started using a duplicate key. They would then flee with the car.
The arrested thieves revealed that they sold the stolen cars for just 50,000 rupees. Their accomplices would dismantle the cars within two to three hours, dismantling them, and selling the parts in the market. These thieves earned between 1.5 and 2.5 lakh rupees for selling the car parts. The four revealed that they targeted Maruti Brezzas and have stolen over 50 Brezzas to date.
Police have revealed that the gang leader, Hemant, is completely uneducated. Amit, the other accused who used a magnet to open the lock, is only an 8th-grade graduate. Baljeet, the accused who dismantled the car and sold it, also studied only up to 5th grade. Some money was recovered from the three accused, and they revealed the names of other members. These three have approximately 40 cases registered against them in various police stations across Uttar Pradesh.
There's no concrete information on whether a car's steering lock can be broken using a magnet, as modern cars use advanced, electric locks. However, it's more likely that thieves can open the lock with a duplicate key. Maruti Suzuki uses a variety of technologies to enhance the security of its cars. This includes physical features like immobilizers and anti-theft alarms, which prevent the engine from starting without the correct key, and sound an alarm in case of attempted theft. Although some of Maruti Suzuki's popular models are more prone to theft, the company takes a holistic approach to safety.
